George H. Metzger, age 89, a resident of Havertown since 1950 passed away Friday January 20, 2012.
Born April 26, 1922 in Norristown, Pa. He grew up in Norristown and graduated from Norristown High School.
On November 24, 1942 he was inducted into the U.S. Army, serving with Headquarters Company 1st Battalion 38th Infantry as a Staff Sergeant. During World War II he served in the Central European Theater. George was Honorably Discharged October 3, 1945.
August 11, 1945 he married Rose C. O'Brien, they moved to Havertown in 1950 where they raised their family and have called it home ever since. He has been a parishioner of Sacred Heart R.C. Church for over 50 years.
George was employed with Villanova University for 33 years. When he retired he was the Food Service Director.
George's family was always his #1 priority, he loved family get togethers, family activities, and time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose C. Metzger, children; Greg Metzger and the late Gail Beebe, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and siblings; Eleanor Slough and the late Ariel and Betty.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 AM Thursday, January 26 in Sacred Heart Church, Manoa Rd, Havertown where family and friends may call after 9:30 AM. Interment is private.
